Hershey Gardens

Located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Hershey Gardens has 23 acres of gardens including a rose garden, herb garden, ornamental grasses, Japanese garden and more. My favorite, of course, was the butterfly house and perennial garden.

Garden Art

Sprinkled throughout the walkways were wind chimes and other garden art that added to the experience. I took a photo of some of my favorites and those that I thought might be easy to make.

Container Gardens

The bath tub container was a unique way to use discarded household objects to repurpose them for your garden. I also liked the container made from an old tree trunk. This is a great way to utilize a stump in your yard and make it beautiful while you wait for it to decompose.  Containers are a great way to add texture and height variety in shady parts of your garden, especially when the soil may be too full of roots to plant directly in the soil.

Garden Structures

There were some nice structures to support flowering plants or vines in the garden.

Ground Cover

I’m always looking for good uses of ground cover and ideas. I really liked rocks interspersed in the variegated liriope.

Butterfly House

Along with the beauty of the butterflies, these gardens provide great examples of plants we can use in our gardens to attract butterflies. Echinacea, pentas, brown-eyed Susans, butterfly bushes, lantanas, and more brought out the color in this garden.
